Rockabilly cheapskate

 

Those websites that have rockabilly clothing for plus size bodies are soooo expensive.

With those lovely clothes in mind I stopped dead in my tracks when I found some tattoo inspired iron on patches not too long ago. I attached them to a cardigan that has been in my wardrobe for a long long time and made something that would probably cost me $100 for less than $15.

I love the results!

Unmellow Yellow

I've been off work for a week now because it was getting to be too much for me and my bump.

My doctor also said that she'd be shocked if I made it to 39 weeks without going into labor. Alas, I'm still knocked up, still as big as a house, still hot and bothered and ready to meet my baby boy. 

I'm trying to relax and enjoy this time to myself before I have a teeny noise machine attached to me at all times, but I'm so impatient. And I want to spend as much time with my little guy before I go back to work. 

Here's what I wore to Ikea, Target, the Dollar Store, and to make chicken, macaroni and cheese and garlic mashed potatoes for dinner (Oh what an exciting life I lead!)

I'm making the most of my hair as pregnancy has done wonders to it! Hopefully it is a distraction from my disappearing ankles which have not favored so well through this adventure.

I made this necklace last night using 3 different necklaces that didn't really excite me anymore. I painted a couple beads with yellow nail polish, one with grey and left the rest natural wood. I strung them onto a dark metal chain. I really like the color combination of yellow and grey and brown. Who would have thunk it?

Fingers crossed next time I post there will be a baby in my arms!

P.S. I made this...

I went to one of my favorite local stores "The Beehive" for it's bi-annual warehouse sale this weekend. It was my first time going, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but my oh my! I found 2 shopping bags worth of wonderful to take home with me...I also took home a cold, but I don't know exactly who to blame for that seen as though the entire city of Atlanta was in the store that morning!(Good for them!)

Anyway, here's a photo of my loot stacks!

The softest, snuggliest fabric ever, and a really beautiful sturdy print. I'm going to sew these babies together and make a yummy blanket.

I mentioned that I heart Kendi last time, right? Well, I really loved this necklace I saw her wearing in a blogpost, so when I saw these beads

I thought maybe I could make my own version. 

I used some crochet yarn in a pretty yellow, and a bead and a loop for a fastening because I didn't want to go shopping for a "real" clasp. I think it turned out pretty snazzy.

Best part? The whole thing cost me about $4! (Kendis cost $100)

What have you made lately?

I don't know how I feel about this...

I have lusted after this Anthropology necklace for so long that I have a folder in my photos section of the computer with pictures of different people wearing it. Sad, I know, but it was just a little too expensive full price and I missed out when it went on sale.

So last week, when I was perusing the shelves of Atlantas "Rag-O-Rama" and I saw it, in my favorite color no less,  my heart skipped a beat.

It feels just how I remember; heavy at the base with the yummiest, softest fabric to tie it around the neck, it is just  beautifully made; but being from a second hand shop I'm not 100% sure that it is the "real" Anthropologie necklace. 

Especially because I keep seeing this 

all over Pinterest.

I love to make things, and I love the satisfaction of getting a great deal, but I'm not sure if I like the idea of taking something so literally. I'd like to think that when I am inspired by something that I do not copy the original work exactly.

I suppose on the same note you could say that me buying it second hand is just as bad as it means that I made no contribution to the designer either. 

These are just thoughts, I'm not sure what my stance is, all I know is I love my necklace.

I'm a little crafty

Today it rained, and I took Midol PM in the morning by accident, so the day was a little foggy. Oops.

I used the time before my 3rd cup of coffee kicked in to jazz up some beaten up flip flops.

I took a scarf that had a hole in it and cut it into 1 inch squares and tied them in double knots around the band that goes on the top of the foot. 

This looks pretty nifty, but is also much more comfy for me as I hate the feeling of rubber flip flops!

I may wear them once, but hey, I got a "new" pair of shoes for zero dollars!

Any one have any cool stories about clothes they've overhauled?
