Lemme Upgrade Ya.

There were 2 casualties on my trip to Myrtle Beach, the first was my mp3 player that I immediately replaced because I can't live without music, and the second was my straw fedora.

I wore it in the ocean, and the mixture of saltwater and sand killed my 100% paper hat. I loved that hat.
see, here, here and here for example!

I decided that because I wore this hat so much that I could spend a little more money than I would normally because I know that I wear a fedora all the time. I went to Bill Hallman in Little 5 and picked up a swankier version of my sweet hat. It has beautiful silk leopard trimming, is super sturdy and will work 365 days a year. I will keep this one out of the water for sure!

P.s. I totally used a Beyonce song as the title because I'm super happy for her and Jay-Z. Such a sweet moment on the VMA's when she revealed her teeny tiny bump.

Chillin with my B Girl stance.

I think the hardest outfit to put together is the one for chilling. I mean if I put on a dress and heels on a Wednesday then I'm better dressed than at least 50% of America already :) But in jeans and a t-shirt I feel less than cute unless I'm adorned with cool jewellery or a funky hat. That's probably why I am never moved by Sophia Coppola or Nina Garcia like some fashion magazines are, I hate minimalism.
Even looking around my house the walls have paintings everywhere, I need 4 different purple eye shadows instead of 1, I have enough pillows to make a fort in every room. More is more to me I guess.
I tried to be a little simple yesterday. The music that I play usually effects my fashion choices day to day and I've been on a serious 90's Hip Hop/RnB kick recently, I think that's pretty obvious with this ensemble.

Simple, easy, comfortable!
T-shirt- Mamahood Maternity Size XL
Skirt- Macys 1X
Bandeau- Ross 3X
Shoes- Nike
Necklaces- Urban Outfitters and ASDA

I scored this bandeau bra in NEON PINK at Ross for $2, it's not great support, but I love the way it looks through my sheer tee. It's a little unexpected.

Nike Sweet Classic Leather in Black/Solar Red

Yellow eye shadow was a subtle carry on of the Neon trend I was trying out.
I used MAC's "Chrome Yellow" matte eyeshadow from their Pro line to line lower lash line.

Biggie, Tupac, Wu Tang, Aaliyah, Brandy and Tribe, thanks for the influence!
Now all I have to do is perfect that windmill and Lotus Airbaby combo!

Confessions of a Make Up Artist.

I have worked on and off as a make up artist for 5 years and in that time I have accumulated more make up than I could possibly use in a lifetime. The funny thing is that I have given away at least 50% of the products I've gotten as gratis to friends, so this is just the stuff I decided I couldn't live without. Scary. Maybe I should have entitled this post as Confessions of a Make Up HOARDER!
Here's a quick little tour of my guest bathroom, aka, "the make up room".

I love having pretty art in my bathroom where I do my make up. I got the 4 girls from The Red Velvet Shop, they're original drawings by Elsie Larson. They make me happy because all the girls have different hair styles and accessories, so it inspires me to try something a little different.
The doodles by JenyfferMaria were done specifically for me which makes them super special. The girl with the umbrella is illustrating my favorite song by my favorite band (Save Me by Hanson in case you were wondering).

I love walls full of Polaroid photographs, so I wanted to do a little homage to that with my Fuji instax photos. There are some from mine and my husbands European travels (Amsterdam, Paris and England) and fun family snaps, my favorite one up there is my husband sleeping with our cat Marvin (4th from the left on the bottom row).
I painted everything in seafoam green, then in white and sanded through the two layers so you could see bits of the original wood and some of the green. It was a fun project to do.
I got all the shelves and the drawers from Goodwill and Vintage shops.

In the drawer on the left I keep my palettes of blush, my Stila getaway palettes, bronzers, mirror and a few extras. The drawer on the right is all eye products. Urban Decays primer potion will be my favorite forever, I have MAC shadows in quads to keep colors that go together together. I love Benefits "Big Beautiful Eyes" Palette, it's my "go to" when I travel.

I have tons of make up brushes because I feel like you can use pretty much anything as long as you have the right tools to apply things with. MAC brushes are worth the investment. I also adore Smashbox brushes, they feel so soft and will last a lifetime. Just remember to wash them every couple of weeks or so. I use MAC's "brush clean", but baby shampoo works wonders  too.

1- Nude/light lipsticks 2- Pink and peach lipsticks 3- Red/dark lipsticks
4- Lip gloss 5- Matte Eye shadows 6- Lip pencils
7- Concealer/foundation/cream cover ups 8- Powders 9- Eye pencils

I worked for Benefit for a year and a half, it was the easiest job in the world because it meant that I got to gush about how much I love their products all day long.
I will use Erase Paste, High Beam, Dandelion and High Brow until I die!

I hope you enjoyed this peek into my bathroom.

Queen of Hearts

Today I was feeling a little blue, so I decided to wear my favorite color head to toe and attempt my favorite hair style to cheer me up.
It totally worked :)

I have the hardest time with "retro hair" because my hair is so thin and I always feel like I'm making it worse when I tease it, but I got Big Sexy Hair's "What a tease" and I think it works wonders.

Just a little bump.

Dress- Forever 21+
Scarf- Vintage from Kudzu
Flip flops- Target
Necklace- Birthday gift from my hubby
"L" Studs- Urban Outfitters

My hubby loved it too!

Painter pants go to the pub.

My lonely star tattoo.

Summer in Georgia lasts so much longer than the rest of the world. Or at least it feels that way to me.
I'm trying not to wear so much black, so I got this beautiful cream top from TJMaxx yesterday.
It's so comfortable and light, and makes me feel like a bird or an angel the way the sleeves drape.
I wasn't really doing much today, just running errands and going to play pub trivia with the girls so I paired the cream shirt with my painting cargo pants and most favorite comfy sandals.
My husband told me that my hair looked weird today, but I think that's just code for rock and roll!

Top- TJMaxx
Cami- Gap
Pants- Target
Wedges- Torrid
Orange Necklace- ASDA
Long Necklace- Urban Outfitters
Lipstick- Chanel "Rivoli"

Once Upon a Time..

Tanesha Awasthi of "Girl With Curves" is one of the best bloggers out there in my opinion. Her beautiful photographs and non fussy outfits are always sophisticated and feminine. She mixes high street fashion with amazing thrift store finds and has a jewelry collection that I covet!

She wrote about her "Thrifted Treasures" back in July when she found a vintage Prada bag, cool denim jacket and some other gems in her neighbourhood Goodwill store. She finished off her post by saying
"YOUR TURN TO SHARE!  What are some of your most prized thrifted treasures?"
I really enjoyed reading peoples comments. I added my story there, but I figured that I'd like to write about it on my blog too.

I'd like to share with you the greatest story ever told.
The day I found Vintage Chanel.

I left Georgia in the morning with a full tank of gas and drove out towards Tennessee to go thrifting, when I found a huge flea market near Chattsworth, GA.
It looked like your run of the mill flea market with home made jams, bookshelves full of paperbacks and a selection of hand sewn quilts. I bought a cup of coffee and meandered my way through the maze of tables and booths skimming my fingers over CD's and children's toys once loved now marked "2 for a $1".
A tall guy caught my eye, his merchandise was spilling out of a pick up truck on to a picnik table. He ha hunting gear, fishing and camping supplies, and a few random pieces of ladies clothing  and accessories.
I asked him why he had the ladies items and he told me that he was selling off his grandmas things as he had no use for them She had lived in New York City and upon her passing his family had gone up to clean out her apartment and brought back some of her things to Georgia.
His Grandmother had beautiful taste; there were silk blouses in beautiful colors, a camel colored coat, pretty and delicate lace gloves and what I thought was a gold and leather necklace.
The gold links with blue leather braided through them hung from the table like the bunting on some of the other booths. I followed the chain up to a purse and swallowed so hard I almost bruised my tonsils.
Quilted buttery soft leather touched my fingertips, two interlocking C's glinted in the sunlight. One for Coco and one for CHANEL!
I was holding a vintage Chanel 2.55 in beautiful condition.

The photo I took right after I bought it, notice the classy "Thank You" take out plastic bag that it came in!
I caught the guys attention again and asked him how much he wanted for it. He said; and I kid you not;
"Oh, that purse , my grandmas name was Carolyn, I think that's why it's got the C's on it...what's your name?"
I told him Lynne.
He said
" Oh, well seen as though your name starts with a L, how does $5 grab ya?"
I remained calm, inhaled once and exhaled once, then I handed him a $10 bill and walked away.
He shouted at me to get my change but I just shook my head, unable to speak.
I almost ran to my car to inspect it thoroughly and inside was a receipt from a Manhattan repair shop for a broken link.
I've had it looked over and checked all the markings. It's real.
And all mine!!!!
I still can't believe my luck every time I look at it!

So in the words of  Tanesha,
"YOUR TURN TO SHARE!  What are some of your most prized thrifted treasures?"

My mum bought me this dress and I think it's from ASDA in England. It's so comfy and I love the movement of the fabric.
My flip flops are from Target. They're the only flip flops I like to wear because the straps are fabric, so they don't rub my toes raw.

The best accessory is a real flower! I found this one on the boardwalk.

I painted my toenails a pretty pinky coral.

To beat the heat I wore my favorite vintage scarf as a headband and added yet another flower (This time not real) for interest. I felt kinda rockabilly.

I hope you enjoyed my holiday photos!
I already miss the seaside.

Postcards from the edge.

I'm having a ball in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with my hubby. We've been on a ferris wheel, seen alligators being fed, dipped our toes in the Atlantic and stumbled upon a free firework show.
I'm in my hotel room, about to snooze, but I just wanted to send you a postcard to let you know there shall be updates on DollfacedLynne soon!
Wish you were here!

They don't call me "Dollface" for nuthin.

Last week I thought it would be a great idea to cut my own bangs. I don't recommend you do this yourself without at least reading about how to do it.
My friend Leah laughs at me every time I get "scissor happy" because she knows I'll start complaining about them s soon as I walk outside, feel the humidity and have them plaster themselves to my forehead. Oh well.

P.S I've had this hair cut before, shhhh.....

I think I was 8 or 9 here?..

Off to see the sea!

Myrtle Beach Weekend
Myrtle Beach Weekend by dollfacedlynne

Me and my husband are driving to Myrtle Beach next weekend. I can't wait! The weather in Atlanta has been scorching. The air is so close that it's hard to breath. I can't wait to get some sea air in these lungs of mine and get my toes in some sand.
I thought I'd be pro active and made a check list so I'd know what to pack, instead of deciding last minute and taking everything in my closet.

I've just realized that there is no underwear on this list... well, it is vacation ;) Haha!

Mondays are fundays!

Monday nights are my favorite.
First me and Leah go to belly dancing class and laugh our asses off by trying to channel Beyonce and Shakira.
We usually end up flailing more than dancing, but must burn extra calories from laughing.
To reestablish our self esteem afterwards we meet at Southern Comfort for karaoke for girls night out.
I love having a bar where most everyone knows your name and you get asked to sing even before you've picked out which song you're going to do.
It makes me smile.
Here's what I wore last night.
